Music Majoring
For those who want to have a career in music, music majoring is the first step towards that goal. There are a couple of different tracks that universities tend to offer; they include composition, performance, history, music education, and music technology. While there may be many students who may music major in universities, a majority would study another major along with the music major unless they go to a university that has high ranking in their music department, such as University of Michigan and Indiana University.
Music majoring are for those who have a deep passion for music. This is a big difference from performing or engaging in music in his school, even if it is at the All-State or All-National level. Seeing how some of my peers have moved on and made music the focus of their life after high school, they have a hard path just like students following an academic path. Looking at stats of those who pursue music major, it seems like a very hard major to be extremely successful--only the top of the heap can make a steady living. While music is my passion, I can't see myself working in the music industry; however I continue to be musically active at Emory, which is good enough for me.
